Lesson 1

The verb "to be"

The most important verb in English. Use it to say who you are, how you feel and where things are.

I am Anna.  ·  You are my friend.  ·  She is happy.
Short forms: I'm, you're, he's, she's, it's, we're, they're.
Tip: To make a question, put the verb first: Are you tired? To make a negative, add not: I am not (I'm not) sad.
Lesson 2

Articles: a / an / the

Small words that tell us if we are talking about something general (a / an) or something specific (the).

I have a car.  ·  I have an apple. (before vowel sounds)
The car is red. (we know which car)
Tip: Use a before consonant sounds and an before vowel sounds: a dog, an orange, an hour (silent h).
Lesson 3

Present Simple

Use it for habits, routines and facts that are always true.

I live in London.  ·  She works in a school.  ·  We eat rice every day.
He/She/It takes -s: he plays, she watches, it works.
Tip: Negatives use don't / doesn't: I don't smoke. She doesn't drive.
Lesson 4

Plurals & numbers

How to count and form the plural of nouns.

one book → two books; one box → two boxes; one baby → two babies
Irregulars: man → men, woman → women, child → children, person → people.
Tip: Say numbers step by step: 1 one, 2 two, 3 three … 10 ten, 20 twenty, 100 one hundred.
Lesson 5

Basic questions

Question words are the keys to conversation: who, what, where, when, why, how.

What is your name?  ·  Where are you from?  ·  How old are you?
Why are you happy?  ·  When is your birthday?
Tip: With "to be", swap the subject and verb for questions: You are → Are you…?
Lesson 6

Prepositions of place

Tell people where things are: in, on, under, next to, between, behind.

The cat is in the box.  ·  The book is on the table.  ·  The keys are under the chair.
My house is next to the park, between the bank and the café.
Tip: In = inside something, on = on top of a surface, at = at a point or place: at school, at home.
